What should I consider when picking a monitor riser

Most of us just plonk our monitor on our existing desk and think we are good to go. At home, you may have a little more flexibility when it comes to customizing the height of your monitor in various ways, but in the office, a professional look may be preferred. Many of us might use books to raise it to a comfortable level—acceptable in your home office, but it looks ugly, and your line manager might object if you do this in your office! Fortunately, with Desky's range of monitor shelf options to suit all budgets, you have an alternative way of ergonomically raising both home and office monitors with a monitor riser.

A monitor riser lifts the top of your monitor screen to eye level, the optimal ergonomic position. No more hunching over the desk all day. This simple change in position significantly decreases muscle tension throughout your neck and back and allows for smoother movement, preventing eye strain, as well as helping people who navigate through multiple screens at once. With our desk risers, you can achieve a more comfortable and organized workspace effortlessly.

A monitor desk raiser creates a workstation that works best for your needs as well as provides extra storage space under the riser, making it easy to work free from clutter. In the area under the stand, there is also plenty of space to place a small laptop.

Which Monitor Riser To Pick?

The Desky range of monitor stand riser options includes dual-monitor stands, adjustable and non-adjustable monitor stands, as well as a clamp-on riser. And with innovative designers, monitor risers are ever-evolving for better function and durability. Consider the following factors when selecting your monitor stand.

Computer Type

Your choice of monitor raiser depends on how you use your computer. To a gamer, for example, the most important feature is optimum enjoyment of the graphics. However, a minimalist user will focus on the design aesthetics.

Maybe you work from home and in various locations like the bed, dining table, or garden, or have no fixed workplace and travel often. The Desky lightweight aluminium monitor riser stand would be perfect for such users.

Do you need an adjustable desktop riser, ideal for moving from sitting to standing? How many monitors do you want to use on it? How big is your monitor screen, and is the monitor riser of your choice able to hold the weight of your monitor? How high does the monitor riser go, and can it be positioned at your eye level? You will need to take all of these questions into consideration before deciding on your monitor stand.

Material

Keeping your work area looking good is important. MacBook or iMac users might want our brushed aluminium riser which matches their machine. Whereas the Desky Monitor Riser White Birch delivers a more mid-century, classic style, suiting today's interior.

Our monitor risers at Desky are not only aesthetically pleasing and minimalist, but also boast superior durability and quality. Give us a shout if you need help with your selection.

Why do i need a monitor riser?

A desk monitor riser is a great tool to help you correct your posture and maintain it. Depending on the number of monitors, it is also an excellent way to preserve space when it comes to desk space.

An adjustable monitor riser will make sure that you maintain proper posture by "raising" the height of your screen enough so that you don't have to hunch over the desk any more than necessary when working. It takes very little effort for this simple change in position but can significantly decrease muscle tension throughout your neck and back. It also allows for smoother movement, prevents eye strain, and helps people who navigate through multiple screens at once.

How tall should my monitor riser be?

It's ergonomically correct for your eyes to be in line with a point on the screen that is about 1.97"-3.94" below the top edge of the monitor which would also typically allow you to keep both forearms parallel with the desk. The height of the monitors will depend on the height of your desk and chair and how tall you are, but they should always be at least eye level.

Individual preferences may differ on what height range suits best for work comfort. In general, when monitors are greatly lower than a user's eye level, this requires extra neck flexion that can result in pain and headaches over time. The resulting stress on eyes and upper body is also compromised posture which contributes to physical health problems that often result from prolonged periods of sitting and sedentary lifestyles.

Are monitor risers ergonomic?

Monitor risers are by their very nature ergonomic. Raising the top of your monitor screen to eye level, ensures the optimal ergonomic position for comfort and health. The manufacturer's monitor stand is a one-size-fits-all, so if your monitor is at the incorrect height, you are forced to strain your neck and assume a bad posture.

How do I choose which monitor riser to buy?

This very much depends on you and your working position. Do you switch between sitting and standing? How tall are you? Do you have room on your work space? If you use one properly, monitor risers remind you adjust your sit-stand posture. It’s a good idea to test working without thinking about your posture. If you are not sitting up straight with your neck in a natural, relaxed, neutral position, then a monitor riser will correct this.

If your preferred working position is unconventional, then you might think about getting an adjustable monitor arm instead.

Are your monitor risers suitable for both laptops and desktops?

Whilst monitor risers are designed for your desktop monitor, offering not only ergonomics and comfort, but also storage underneath to accommodate your keyboard, gaming console and stationery, you can also use one with your laptop.

Raising the laptop screen to eye level has its obvious advantages although this also means your laptop keyboard is higher, so you may need to adjust your sitting height to avoid lifting your shoulder for long periods of time. Alternatively, pairing your laptop with an external keyboard and mouse while using the riser may be more comfortable.
